O Scale Trains Remain a Popular Choice For Train Hobbyists
Despite the presence of HO scale and N scale, the O scale trains have dominated the market in its own ways. Hobbyists around the world find these trains more attractive over any other models. O scale trains and their measurement differ from place to place. For example in the US the ratio between the original and a model is 1:48 on a measuring scale. However, in England it is 1:43:5!
Initially O scale trains and the houses were too small. Generally, the basement served as the best location during those days. But it was in the 90s that the development started and they were far more lifelike and compact. Since then people could get them and dedicate their time to them.
These days, O scale trains also come with many accessories. They everything right from logs of wood to buckets. You name it and you have it kind of models are available in the market now. These props make these trains more and more lifelike. This is why lot of adults also gets enmeshed in its accuracy. They can be decorated you want and make the surroundings so unique that no one can overlook them.
What should you use to clean a trains o scale locomotive? I use pipe cleaners or just a cotton swab. Dip it in some rubbing alcohol and clean the wheels in a scrubbing motion. This should be done one to two times a year. If you run your trains as much as me then consider two as a minimum. Keeping those tracks nice and clean is a big help, which would mean the wheels will hardly require any cleaning.
Aside from cleaning the wheels, you also need to check the universal joints, worm, and the worm gear. Locomotives should be disassembled one at a time; this will be difficult, or at least tedious, your first few times, and there's chances of causing permanent damage. To ensure that you're doing the right thing you will need to check the instruction sheet or manual. Find the diagram so that you'll know exactly what to do, and read through it once or twice before you touch anything. Trust me.
What are the particular variations in the O-27 scale? There are actually a number of similar O scale track choices. When the standard O scale train track is put down in a circle, it has a diameter of 31 inches. So the ordinary O scale track is sometimes called O-31 track. Meanwhile, the O-27 scale track will produce a smaller, 27-inch diameter when laid in a circle. The O scale track is made in several sizes, including O-27, O-31 (standard), O-42, O-54, and O-72. The differences have to do with the various diameters of the circular track. If you prefer to set up your railroad in a smaller space, you will be able to fit in more track with closer curves, but the overall effect is less realistic and sometimes full-sized O cars have trouble successfully negotiating the curves. Fortunately, model train hobbyists have the advantage of mixing and matching different scales of track to produce the layout they want.
Compare that to O trains, which are 1:48 scale, which means the cars are about 12-16 inches long. Not only do these train sets take a lot more space to set up and to store, they also cost a lot more. As a result, these trains are primarily purchased by more serious model trains hobbyists while the HO trains are primarily purchased by beginners and families looking for train sets as a Christmas gift.
The next leading scales are the N model trains with 20% of searches, followed by G with 16% of searches. These trains are 1:160 scale, which makes them even smaller than HO trains. Cars are only about 4-5 inches long for N scale. G model trains are at the other end of the size spectrum with 1:22.5 scale, which means the cars are about 18-26 inches. These are too big to fit in most homes. They are most commonly used in outdoor gardens.

Model Train value help!?
I have a 1947 Marks O gauge electric train set, that is in the original box. (although the box has been opened and the train played with) It is in very good condition, and I would like to know how much it would be worth. I am not sure if marks is spelled right as it is a relative of mine that owns the train they just want me to find its value. The train is from 1947 and has the train set and track and all. I was told at the tim eit was bought in 1947 that marks was not a top brand as lionel is. Please if you could help me out I would appreciate it. I was unable to find anything on the train.
They are called Marx and while not as well known as Lionel - they were their main competition for many years...

Adding Power to a Lionel Train Set or Other Model Railroad Set
Whether you’ve purchased a Lionel train set or another brand of model railroad trains, you will need to know a few things about the power supply. This article offers some helpful tips from the National Model Railroad Association which can help you get off to a good start.
Something to remember is that the more intricate your layout, the more turns and other pieces, the more places you will need to add power, since those rail joints cause some resistance and the train will tend to slow down as it gets further away from the feeder wires coming from the original power source.
When adding power, always remember the “right-hand ruleâ€. What this means is that, looking from the direction of the power pack, when you push the direction switch to the right, the engine will travel the track counterclockwise.
This rule is important to remember, so that you when you add any additional feeders, you wire them just the same, otherwise it will short-circuit. When following the right-hand rule, the outside rail is positive and the inside negative. Two rail model locos all operate on Direct Current (DC).
The best way to keep track of your wires so that positive and negatives match up is to use color-coded wire. Doorbell wire works well. It normally comes in small coils of 25 to 50 feet and #18 gauge, meaning it can handle the normal draw for a model railroad – telephone wire is too small a gauge, stick with doorbell wire. The insulating jacket on doorbell wire is red or white. You can use the red wire for positive and the white for negative. Then you just have to remember red for the outside rail, white for the inside rail. Remember, the rails are just extensions of the power pack wires, and provide the electricity to the engine.
Next, you will need to connect the wires to the rails in your layout. The best way is to solder on the feeder wire to the outside rail, but since this is your first layout and that can get complicated, it’s probably a good idea to just use a rail joiner purchased from a hobby shop, or at least solder them to a rail joiner if you already have soldering equipment. Soldering to the joiner yourself has the advantage that you can keep the color-coding purchased rail joiners have the same color wire on both sides.
With multiple feeder wires connected to your track to give that power boost so the train doesn’t slow down after getting further from the power pack, you may be tempted to double up the wires on the original terminals of the power pack. But the problem is the power pack vibrates, since it’s running on alternating current (AC). Some people have had problems such as wires coming off, etc. So the best plan is to go with an 8 terminal block and connect the wires to that instead of overloading the terminals in the power pack. You can buy one from a hobby shop or an electronics store – or even an auto parts store.
Now just strip back the insulation on each wire a little bit so you can wire the feeders from the power pack across to the new terminal block. Then, make a loop with the wiring from the first terminal screw of the positive half of the board to the second one and follow up with the negative on the negative side. After that, it’s simple to just connect the feeder wires from the track to the screws opposite the ones already used. And this way, each terminal screw will only have one wire on it. You’ll avoid the vibrations from the power pack and have a lot fewer problems with wires coming loose, etc.
For adding power to your first model railroad layout, that’s about all there is to it. Once you’ve completed this project, you can begin to think about expansions. Most enthusiasts don’t want to stop with their first Lionel train set, but go on to build expansions, which get into some interesting scenarios with adding feeder wires for switches and other more advanced connections.

Model Railroad Scenery â How to Create Realistic Looking Rock Structures
If you've ever marveled at realistic looking rock scenery on model railroads and wondered how they were created, this article describes in detail how you too can easily achieve the same results.
These are the items you will need:
· Newspaper · Masking tape · Plaster of Paris or Hydrocal plaster · Acrylic paints in burnt umber, raw umber, raw sienna, white and slate grey colors · Art paint brush and craft sponge brush · Assorted items for shaping plaster, such as spatulas and plastic knives  The first step is deciding where you want that rock face, outcropping or rocky hill will be on your railroad layout. Unless you're modeling a section of the Grand Canyon, bear in mind that rock structures usually emerge from areas of foliage and greenery. And it is precisely this contrast that makes the scene look interesting and real.  Before you proceed any further, cover any areas on your layout near the section you're planning to work on. Wet plaster drips and tends to get on everything no matter how careful you are. Whenever I work with plaster, I tape over my railroad tracks with painter's masking tape and cover larger areas with cling wrap or aluminum foil. Aluminum foil is also great because, for this purpose, it's reusable.  Once you have decided on the placement of your rock scenery, make up several wads of small pieces of newspaper. On my HO scale layout I use sizes varying from 2 to 4 inches in length, in varying thicknesses.  Use a size that you think is best for your layout scale. Larger wads will create bigger outcroppings on the rock face.  Using masking tape, attach the wads of newspaper to the area where the rock outcroppings will be. Cover the wads completely with the masking tape. Try to go for a layered arrangement that looks random and not man-made. Don't worry, it will look much better and come together with a very natural look after you complete the next few steps.  Mix up some Plaster of Paris or Hydrocal plaster following the instructions on the packaging. Hydrocal is very lightweight but considerably more expensive than Plaster of Paris. Plaster sets quickly so mix up smaller quantities and work with it in small batches. Be sure to thoroughly rinse out the mixing container and spatula between batches as any dried residue plaster will interfere with how the new batch sets up.  Now comes the fun, albeit messy bit.  Using a spatula, apply plaster over the newspaper and masking tape wads. Remember to keep the texture random -- smooth in some areas, craggy in others. Use a plastic knife to add more detail to the rock face with vertical or horizontal striations. Notice how the newspaper wads beneath the surface give the rock a three-dimensional look.  Stand back, admire your handiwork and let the plaster dry overnight.  Adding color to our rock is the final step to complete scenic realism.  I usually choose a combination of raw sienna, raw umber, burnt umber and slate grey acrylic paints. The colors should be diluted with water to a thin wash so that we are not actually painting the rock but staining it.  Using a paint brush or sponge brush, apply the washes in a random series of spots of burnt umber, raw umber and raw sienna. Go easy on the darker colors as they tend to dominate and, if overused, can make your scenery look somewhat somber. Then, apply a very dilute wash of slate grey over the whole rock face and over the other colors. The grey wash unifies the other color combinations into a very realistic look.  Finally, very sparingly dry brush undiluted white acrylic paint in areas for highlights and to create a sun-bleached effect.      As you can see, it doesn't take exceptional artistic talent to create realistic looking rock on your model railroad layout. But use these ideas as a starting point and feel free to experiment with ideas of your own. Try different materials and coloring techniques. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what you may come with.  And don't forget, as scenic modelers we must constantly observe nature for an infinite supply of new ideas.

Secrets to Developing a Successful Home-based Business Website Revealed!
Network marketers get the short end of the stick when it comes to quality website training. This is detrimental to those of us who aren't internet-savvy because we don't really know what's right or wrong. We just take our companies' words for what they are worth because we trust them. The sad reality, unfortunately, is that the way most companies teach their distributors to use the internet is completely useless.
Have you ever been conned into purchasing a pre-designed website system with fancy bells and whistles that was designed by a "professionally trained web designer/graphic artist" for about $50 a month? Everything is already custom made just for you and all you have to do is put your web site address on your business card and wait for the money to arrive in the mail. You think to yourself, "This company wants me to succeed, so it must be the real deal!" But then a year later all you have to show for it is a debt of $600. Why didn't it work?

So they play a numbers game that ensures them to increase their overall sales no matter if you quit or stick around for ten years. My experience using a custom-made website program will provide you with a good example on why it doesn't work. I bought into a "system" designed by my upline that included a really nice looking, informative website. It had all kinds of training and visuals to help me grow my business. I was told that all I needed to do was purchase leads from them for about $4.00 each at a monthly cost of $500 to $1000 and wait for people to visit the site and the rest would work for itself. This proved to be very far from the truth.
After I added up all of my expenses over a six-month time period and guaged my activity, I was amazed to find a debt of about $500. I was one of the fortunate ones because I kept track of my gauges and quit. My upline's check increased because the "system" was really designed by them to supplement their income whether I succeeded or not. I wouldn't go as far to say that I didn't get any business at all, but after six months of hard work, only one customer still remains actively purchasing products from me today.
I'm sure my story is tame compared to the thousands of people getting themselves into bankruptcy over these sites that don't really work. The problem is that we're not being told that there is an art and science to using the internet. It doesn't come from a pretty looking site for which you have to spend lots of money. It comes from knowing how to get the right audience in front of the right message.
Imagine a convenience store way out in the middle of the desert. How can anyone expect to find it? And what happens when they stumble upon it by accident and are unable find what they are looking for? Do you think that if the interior looks pretty enough it will make them want to buy a bag of potato chips when they really want a cold beverage? Probably not. Those people are going to leave your store and do what it takes to find a store that has water.
What if you knew how to send a message out to all the people who wanted potato chips and then directed them to your store? Just like the person who wanted water, it wouldn't matter what your store looks like. It's the potato chips that they want, and they'll buy them from you regardless of how pretty you've painted the place. You've found people who have a want, need or desire for what you have to offer, and you've filled that demand with supply. That's called marketing.
Did you know there are simple, proven ways to drive people to your website without spending lots of money? Did you know that you can easily find $25 leads on the internet for about ten cents each? Did you know that there are specific techniques to getting targeted traffic to your website that won't cost you any money at all? All of these things are available to you. Unfortunately, your company and upline probably won't tell you what they are.
If you want to expand and explode your current home-based business, you need a proper education in marketing. Marketing your products instead of distributing or selling them is what makes the difference. Your products won't sell themselves just because you get your Aunt Faye to your website. If this was true, why would your company need you at all? Why would you want to bug your friends and family when all you have to do is learn how to find people who already want what you have? Or even better, learn to have them find you!
It's simple and it's proven, but it does require a change in the way you've been programmed to think in network marketing. It requires the mindset of a person who wants to grow a successful business from home rather than simply sell a few products here and there. You have to step up and decide you need to change your way of thinking. It doesn't come from buying the latest website or the most expensive leads. It comes from a willingness to think outside of the box by being educated on the simple things that make the biggest differences.

Tyson was great for one era, the 80's.
Ali was great for two, the 60's and 70's.
Tyosn's highlights are against washed up old men and no name fighters.
In his prime he went the distance with tall long reach Tucker, Tillis, Green, Smith, Ruddock and was KOd by Douglas.
Ali's leagacy is that he beat the best competition ever, Liston, Patterson, Foely, Frazier, Norton, Foreman and Shavers.
When Tyson lost 3 years he won a few fights then got TKOd at age 30 by a 34 year old Holyfield in rd 11, and was losing when he was disqualified in the rematch.
When Ali lost 31/2 years he went 15 rds with a prime Frazier, then avenged the loss twice and regained the belt at 32 against a prime Foreman.
Liston, Shavers and Foreman all hit harder and Ali had the best chin and most heart ever.
Mike never got off the canvas to finish a fight.
Kevin Rooney and Teddy Atlas who trained Tyson in his prime both picked a prime Ali to beat a prime Tyson.

Use an Atlas Stone for a Serious Workout
Working out with sandbags has been getting more popular these days. But it you want to take odd object training to another level try lifting atlas stones. You will not be able to do the same types of exercises as you would with sandbags, just basically pick it up, but you will target the whole body in the process.
The atlas stone has been around for a while, you can see them in strongman competitions and they are used in gyms and at homes for general strength workouts. You can actually make your own with relative ease. You would just uses a ball for a mold and use cement. If you want one that is not so heavy just use maybe a basketball, something heavy could be made with a larger beach ball. Another article will show the steps to making one.
Basically what you would be doing is lifting the atlas stone up off the ground. Depending on how heavy the stone is will dictate how much technique you must employ to lift it. The benefit of lifting the stone is that it activate all the large muscle groups in your body giving you an excellent whole body workout.
In addition to using an atlas stone you can pretty much use any large rock or something large that you can use for lifting. An object that is not round but with many angles could make it easier to hold onto where a round stone can be slippery and difficult to hold which increases its difficulty level..

You don't need to teach him to fight. I would not allow him to be dominated by a larger dog at this age. Keep him away from older, larger breeds. In another year, you're gonna be wondering how to get him to stop trying to kill the nearest thing.....mouse, cat, bulldozer, etc.

No matter how old you are, if you love trains, you will likely adore the O-27 scale model train. If you want trains that don't cost much, last a long time, and are easy to use, invest in O scale model trains. A lot of people who get trains as a hobby got their start with a Lionel, MTH, or American Flyer O scale model train that they set up in their home.
The German toy company Marklin developed the O scale train in 1900. Instead of providing a realistic train experience, they focused on making model trains fun. Before long, everyone used the O scale for their model railroads. Once the United States got through the Great Depression, it became standard to use O scale model trains. O scale tracks typically have three rails on them. You can find current O scale tracks in three or two track outfits, though (three rail tracks are powered). Since the advent of more realistic train operations, people have been passing over the O scale trains for HO and NO scale model trains. However, people still tend to start out their train collections with O scale trains.

Therefore, you shouldn't count on all O scale model trains worldwide to be the same size. Make sure you know how different the trains can be as you shop for O scale items.

how much can i ( or should i)sell bachmann ho scale electric train and the scenery set with the controls etc?
It depends on the set & conditions of the stuff you are sellling I own a lot of Bachman locomotives in both dc & dcc ,I have paid around $50.00 for each one. Bachman stuff is usually inexpensive

Guide to Train Set Power Packs for Bachmann Model Trains
So you've finally decided which new layout you want for your Bachmann model trains. You've carefully planned your train expansion and realize you must now consider expanding your power source. When working with any brand of train set, power packs play an important role.
Unfortunately, a starter train set is rarely sufficient for your goals and it doesn't take long to realize how much better the experience will be with a bit of additional power. Even worse is the fact some power packs aren’t even afforded adequate protection against burnouts; which is a risk to your investment. With those thoughts in mind, we've put together a few buying tips and general guidelines that will help you decide the best power pack for your own train set.
So what exactly is a power pack's purpose in the world of Bachmann model trains? Simply put, power packs serve as rectifiers that alternate from A.C. to D.C. and they include transformers that monitor the voltage and incorporate a rheostat that works as a variable resister allowing better control over the speed of the train. Don't let this overwhelm you- the good news is all of the variables and formulas have already been incorporated into the many power packs on the market. Your biggest task will be selecting the right one for your needs.
Many enthusiasts will suggest incorporating a separate power source for accessories. If your model toys include many of the bells and whistles such as lights and the ability to switch machines, it's recommended your incorporate one of these separate power packs. It will eliminate the frustrating slowing of your train each time you command your other accessories. Ideally, a two amp power pack will serve the purpose, but at least consider a one amp pack. This will ensure fewer power surges and interruptions.
At this point, you may wish to consider adding a pulse switch. This allows half the A.C. wave cycle to be directed towards a rapidly pulsating D.C. One advantage to incorporating a pulse switch is the ability to better manipulate your Bachmann model train set at lower speeds while helping the motor to overcome friction. It's important to note despite the advantages of adding a pulse switch, there is always the risk of the motor overheating which might cause it to burn out. Although this isn't common, it's important to know the possibility exists. One way to avoid this is to ensure the gears aren't too tightly wound and sufficient lubrication is in place to avoid overheating.
Finally, as with everything else electrical these days, the world of Bachmann model trains has kept pace with the technological advances of contemporary times. Today’s electronic packs are designed to release a quick first surge of power to get your model train set moving until it's receiving D.C. at higher speeds. The changes in the throttle determine spikes in frequencies, thereby ensuring a more realistic start with no jumps or shortages. Other new advances include throttles that you can move around with and radio controlled throttles that ensure complete control over your train set. You even have the option of command throttles that allow you to run multiple independent trains simultaneously.
As you can see, when it comes to train set power packs, plenty of options abound. It's not as overwhelming as it seems. Following these tips can bring any Bachmann model trains to their highest output for maximum enjoyment. A bit of knowledge will arm you as you begin the search for the right power pack that meets your needs.
